DESCRIPTION:
Daniel Desbois, 79 High Holborn, London, an unusual keyless lever fusee pocket watch with Berrollas patent winding, 11 jewels, pull wind gilt plate movement with lever escapement, and cut bimetallic balance with gold timing screws in a sterling silver, screw back and bezel, reeded edge, engine turned open face case with London hallmark and date letter for the year 1828, and Roman numeral white enamel dial with gold hands, serial #1888, 54mm.
CONDITION:
CASE: Minor dents; Dings and pin pricks; Scratches on outer surface of case; Minor scratches on inner surface of case; Engine turning worn smooth; Crystal with scratches; Precious metal content marked. DIAL: Spider hairlines, light, at dial mounting screw, 9:00. HANDS: Minute replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Fine scratches on plate; Bright work with minor specks of oxide; A few screws with minor loss to blue. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks). The mechanism employed in winding this watch was patented by Joseph Anthony Berrollas in 1827. Setting is also keyless, and is accomplished by use of a finger against the milled rosette on the minute hand.
